Charleston’s inhabitants are always on the prowl for new and interesting establishments, especially venues that offer an atmosphere unlike any other in town. It is for this reason that I feel it is my responsibility to introduce Anna Faenza’s Elliotborough Mini Bar–located at 18 Percy Street–to all of those unfamiliar in our beloved city.
What makes this bar special? Well, Elliotborough Mini Bar (EMB) is your very own den away from home–except much cooler if we are being honest–featuring plush, green leather booths, a live band in the corner, local artwork on the walls, and unendingly interesting conversations with your very own craft beer expert, Anna. Did I mention that their adopted mascot is the wolf, my favorite animal?
In addition to EMB’s unique space and intimate feel, it sets itself apart by not being limited to one chef or style of cuisine. Anna features new Guest Chefs on a weekly basis from many of Charleston’s premiere restaurants including Husk and The Wild Olive, allowing for fresh new ideas and tastes to circulate through her bar.
Being a small business owner herself, Anna, understands the need to support and be supported by the local community. Her bar features beers from local breweries like Westbrook and Holy City, as well as savory wines which can be sampled during her numerous wine tastings. As a result of Anna’s open business mentality, EMB has become a hub of creativity and expression for Charleston as Guest Chefs test their skills with new dishes, artists showcase their latest creations, and musicians share their passion for soulful sound on a weekly basis. Everyone wins in this bar. There are no preconceived notions when you walk through the front door, it is simply your home away from home.
Every Monday EMB celebrates the unsung heroes of this town–its workers–and rewards them for their hard work with a special meal and at discounted prices no less! My troupe was fortunate enough to venture into Anna’s cozy little establishment on one such Working Class Monday. To our delight, her Guest Chefs created an innovative variation of a McDonald’s meal including a Mock Griddle, Tater Tots side dish and S’more dessert. Needless to say, this Working Class special was a smashing success, as were the happy hour drink prices (20% off the whole bar)!
If you find yourself in need of a pick-me-up on a dismal Monday, head over to EMB where you will be welcomed with open arms and the promise of a guaranteed good time. Anna’s bar provides ample opportunities to brighten your week, so check out her weekly line-up so you do not miss out!
